“Don’t you think you need to be seen by people who are further out than 5 miles from your business?” Was her cheerful but obviously snide remark to my real question on why would anyone in California be searching for my gallery. Just that I should be excited to be seen. What was worse was she couldn’t tell me how this person found me. Which would be great if it wasn’t for a local gallery in North Carolina. On my call the representative excitedly told me that a woman from California clicked through to my website. You can’t really tell what is a bot versus what is a real quality click. The big reason why is because these metrics give you numbers but don’t tell you why they clicked. These metrics are comparable to Google My Business (which is also important for any business to be listed on) but do not touch Google Analytics, or other free SEO platforms like Woorank, SEMRush etc. Where you can see how many searches you appeared in versus who clicked and then who went on to click on your website, call, or grab directions. Now they have a backend, with some metrics. The reason: Yelp provides no real insight on who is seeing your business and why.

Without a massive budget and a willingness to take risk. When it comes to advertising with Yelp I’m not convinced anyone should. So I will always advise you to get listed.

It can help increase your visibility online and you want to show up on Maps with curated photos, Yelp coupons/deals, and as you grow you want to showcase a glowing trail of positive reviews. Now Yelp is a great place to list your business for free. They’re often on the first 3 lines of any search results, and most people look to Yelp for finding new businesses and their reviews.Īctually, I would edit that last sentence to “most people look to Yelp for finding new RESTAURANTS and their reviews.” Not necessarily all businesses. It’s one of the most trafficked sites, they’ve linked up with Apple and now provide the reviews and photos you see on Maps. Outside of the constant “high energy” sales pitch calls every quarter Yelp has some real issues for businesses looking for quality advertising platforms.
